August 18th, 2010

Toddlers love collecting little things on outings. From shells and stones to feathers and leaves, and all the treasures need a place to be kept safe. This simple box made using leftover boxes, some self adhesive plastic and embellishments is perfect for collecting those holiday treasures.

Age group: 2+ years

What you need:

  • An empty box with a flip top lid. Such as those used for washing powder tablets or pizza.
  • Sticky backed plastic (such as Fablon)
  • Gems, sequins, stickers for decorating

What to do:

  1. Cover the box in sticky back plastic.
  2. Provide your toddler with stickers, self adhesive gems and shapes, sequins and other pretty things.
  3. Give them freedom to decorate as they please.
  4. When everything is dry, allow them to place their treasures inside.

Tips:

  1. Remember to leave the bottom clear of any lumpy decorations or it won’t stand firmly.
  2. make sure you show yout toddler where not to stick things-like over the flap so that it no longer opens.
