Artist on the Go!

August 16th, 2010

This fun and cute creation is guaranteed to get your budding artist inspired. Using discarded clothing and a simple notebook, you can make a wonderful and educational tool for your toddler.

Age group: 3+ years

What you need:

  • Old jeans or trousers with back pockets-you can usually find cheap ones at charity shops. And remember: one pair of trousers makes two sketchbook covers!
  • A notebook (spiral or bound)
  • Glue
  • crayons

What to do:

  1. Cut the section of the trousers that has the back pocket attached to the size of the notebook.
  2. Help your child to glue the fabric to the front of the notebook.
  3. When it is dry, fill the pocket with crayons.
  4. They now have the perfect thing for drawing on the move!

Tips:

  • Take it a step further and allow your child to decorate the fabric with fabric paints and glues.
  • Take the chance to talk about reusing items in relation to conservation of the planet.
