Glass Painted Tea Light Lantern
October 16th, 2009
Why not reuse some little glass jars and turn them into these glittering glass painted candle holders! This is really quick and easy for kids to do and they look gorgeous all lit up. Make a few and give them away to family and friends as gifts…
Age group: 2 years+
What you need:
A small glass jar (jam or babyfood jars work well) no lids needed
Craft wire in your choice of colour
Glass paint and brushes OR use glass paint in tubes ready to use.
What to do:
- Wrap the wire tightly around the rim of the jar where the lid screws on, then make a loop of wire over the top of the jar to make a handle.
- Feed the handle wire under the wire that is already around the jar rim and pass back over to make another loop. Twist the two loops together to make a thicker, more stable handle.
- Wrap the wire around once more and twist the end to some of the other coils of wire to secure everything in place and tidy up any ends. Younger children may need some help with this from an adult.
- Decorate the jar with glass paints. You can use dots or lines in any colour you like. Perhaps choose traditonal Christmas or Diwali colours.
- Add a tea-light and either hang up your little lantern or display on a table ( be sure to protect surfaces from heat)
