3 in 1 Pumpkin, Squash or Apple
October 26th, 2009
During Harvest our thoughts turn to pumpkins, apples and squashes. Here is perfect toddler craft that is easily adapted to suit all three!
Age group: 18 months+
What you need:
- Paper bowls -any size will do…using a variety of sizes will make an attractive display!
- Acrylic paint in autumn colours(orange, gold, green, red, brown)* if you don’t have acrylic, ordinary washable paints will do.
- Green craft foam or felt (for the leaves and stalk)
- Raffia ribbon or brown string or wool. (the more natural looking the better)
- Glue stick or glue dots
- Paint brushes (you could use fingers if you’re feeling brave!)
-
Scissors
What to do:
- Turn the bowl upside down so that you can paint the outside of the bowl with the orange paint. If you are using acrylic paint, it will dry quickly.
- Cut the leaves and stem while the paint is drying.
- Once the paint is mostly dry, lightly paint brown or dark orange lines on the bowl to make it look more like a pumpkin.
- Use glue dots to attach the stem and leaves on the top.
- Tie a raffia bow and add that last with the glue dots.
*Try stapling two bowls together. You can then hang the 3-D vegetable/fruit from the ceiling using fishing line or more raffia.
*Use glitter paint to add some shine. Especially effective if you use it to add detail…
* Experiment with colours…painted gold or green and you have a squash or red and you have apples.
