Road Trip Sanity Saver

August 12th, 2010

Taking long  trips in a car is sometimes unavoidable and can be a daunting prospect for you. How will you amuse your toddler. What can be done? This is a simple and fun way to adapt “eye spy” into a paper game.

Age group: 3 + years

What you need:

  • Printed sheets of paper with images of things you might see on or along the road.
  • A clipboard or similar to press on
  • Pencils

What to do:

  1. Spend some time on the internet downloading clipart or pictures and place them into a document for printing.
  2. You can create many different sheets, with varying amounts of pictures on each.
  3. Give your toddler the sheet and pencil and have them look for things on their “list”. They colour or cross off objects when they have seen them.
  4. Pictures you may like to incude: variety of animals and birds, road signs, car, truck, bus, aeroplane, river, barns, trees, bridges, lakes etc

Tip:

  1. Make a variety of these and spare copies and keep them in a folder in the car, that way you are always prepared.
  2. Use less pictures and simpler images for younger children and fill the page with many and more obscure items for older children.
