Have a Healthy Halloween

Loch Ness Monster Cake
28 October 2009

Make these monster themed invitations for a birthday or Halloween party. They can be a scary or as cute as you like and could be adapted to other characters to suit a variety of party themes.

Age group: 3 years+

What you need:

  • Thin cardboard  (A5 size works well)
  • scissors
  • colouring pencils/crayons or felt tips
  • glue
  • goggly eyes, silver circles, sequins or stickers

What to do:

  1. Fold your cardboard in half to make a card.
  2. Draw or trace a monster onto the front. Keep it simple and make sure it takes up most of the paper. You could even do Blow paint monsters for a quick and bloblike monster that does not need colouring.
  3. Cut around the shape through the front and back piece of the card. For younger children, adults may have to do this step.
  4. Use your colouring pencil etc to colour and decorate the Monster. You can make it as cute or as scary as you like. You could even make girl and boy monsters depending on the recipient!
  5. Glue on eyes.
  6. Handwrite or print the details of the party onto paper and stick it inside the monster card.

Tip: If you have many to make and can’t spend a lot of time colouring the monster in, use coloured card and only add the details.

Carla

At some point in my teaching career I came to realise how little ‘real’ information there was for parents. I would get the same questions from friends and parents mainly about keeping the children learning and engaged and this only increased when I gave birth to my daughter.
