Creating a sensory tub for different themes is a fabulous way to get your little one interested and learning about different special days, colours, textures, sizes, shapes and theme related objects.
Try to keep it simple, focusing on what the children are currently interested in – fitting things inside other things and filling and emptying.
Ideas of things to add to your Easter sensory tub
Use any size tray or container to create the base of your sensory tub. Place any of the following items into the tub and allow your child to explore and use their imagination. Discuss texture, colour, smell (if appropriate) and sound.
- Plastic eggs in various colours and shapes (the ones that come apart and can be filled are great)
- Small toy rabbits, chicks, lambs (fluffy or plastic)
- Coloured yellow or green rice, or shredded paper
- Fake spring flowers : daffodils/crocuses/snowdrops etc
- Spoons and funnels for scooping and pouring
- Butterflies
- Feathers
- Easter cookie cutter shapes
- cotton balls for pretending they are rabbit tails
- rabbit, chick or lamb finger puppets
- Pink/yellow/green or other pastel coloured shredded paper as the base. If you prefer, you can colour rice in pastel colours and use that as the base.
- Glitter sprinkled over it all
- Foam or wooden letters that spell out Easter or spring
