The Diya is a common feature of the celebrations which accompany the festival of lights or Diwali. This is a simple way to make paper diya decorations to hang in the window or doorway.
What you need:
- Yellow or orange textured paper
- Textured paper in a bright colour (like red or orange)
- Gold cord or thread
- Gold glitter glue
What to do:
- Cut out a large flame shape from the yellow paper
- Cut out a diya shape from the other paper
- Make a hole at the bottom of the flame and another in the middle of the diya.
- Tie them together with the gold cord or thread.
- Make a hole at the top of the flame and tie on some gold cord/thread to hang.
- With glitter glue or a gold pen, write ‘happy’ on the flame and ‘diwali’ on the diya. You could write this on both sides as it will move and spin when hung.
- These look really great if you make lots and hang them together.
