Family Movie night can be such fun! Snuggling up on the couch in front of a warm fire and munching on popcorn and snacks is a fabulous way to spend cold, dark, wintery evenings. Once a month is a good frequency to aim for and makes it special as it is not a common occurrence.
How to organise your Family Movie Night
1. Choose the theme:
- Animated
- Scary movies
- Adventure
- Comedy
- Animal
2. Choose the food:
- I like to either do a finger food dinner like sandwiches, hot dogs or wraps that can be eaten on trays in front of the television
- drinks in a bottle (less chance of spillages)
- Individual treat pots containing a few sweets, chocolates and cookies; this allows me to control how much they eat and is fair to everyone.
- two or three large bowls of popcorn ( our favourite is salted and buttered) that we pop in the microwave
- Make food that matches the theme.
3. Dress Code:
- We usually do bath time first and wear pyjamas on a family movie night.
- Dress up to match the theme…if watching Disney Princesses, wear your princess/prince dress up. If it’s a scary movie, wear Halloween costumes.
4. Rules:
- switch off (or at least put in the other room) any iPads, phones or electronic devices.
- cuddle up close on the couch.
- enjoy time together
5. Extra bits:
- Some families print out tickets for the show and draw posters to stick up on the door.
- Place a strips of paper with the themes in a hat, allow someone to pull a strip out to determine which theme you will watch. Do this in the morning if you are going for a dress up theme to allow time to prepare.
