Use a few simple items to create magical miniature winter scenes in old glass jars. These make cute gifts for friends and family too.
Age group: 18 months+
What you need:
- Clean glass or plastic jar with a lid
- Water (boiled and cooled)
- silver or white snowflake or star table confetti
- silver and/white glitter
- plastic snowman/ Father Christmas/ Christmas tree etc. (use those available as cake toppers!)
- Glue gun (optional)
- food colouring (optional for colouring the water)
- PVA glue
What to do:
- Glue your character/object to the bottom of the jar.
- While it is drying, decorate the lid with silver paint or glitter.
- Once the glue has dried, put about a teaspoon of glitter into the jar.
- Sprinkle in a few confetti snowflakes
- Fill with the water
- Use glue around the thread of the jar and replace the lid. The glue will prevent the lid from coming off and spilling the contents.
- Allow the glue to set
- Shake your jar to create a sparkling snowstorm around your character/ object of choice
This idea can be adapted for any season.
- Spring: Use fake flowers and plastic chicks/ bunnies. Flower confetti/sequins and brightly coloured glitter. Colour the water pink or other pastel colours.
- Autumn: Use plastic Owls/squirrels or fake plastic trees. Use leaf-shaped confetti/sequins and bronze, gold, red glitter. Colour the water yellow or orange.
- Summer: Use plastic seaweed (for fish tanks) and small plastic fish/starfish etc with blue/green water, blue or silver glitter and a teaspoon of sand (like that used in sandpits)
