The Adventures of Jingle, Our Christmas Elf, Day 7
You know that cosy place when you’re dozing all warm in bed somewhere between awake and asleep? Well that is where I was when I heard the excited yelling and calls of “Mum, come and seeeee!!! Come and look what Jingle has done!”
I grabbed the camera (I’m known as the “Mama”razzi -as opposed to “Papa”razzi- by friends and family) and followed the sounds of excitement.
Jingle was sitting on the kitchen table ,which he had covered in a Christmas table cloth and set with four place settings including cakes, cookies and mini espresso cups and saucers. He left instructions for me to fill the teapot with boiling water to make the hot chocolate. There were already mini marshmallows in four little espresso cups with saucers and small chocolate cupcakes and smiley cookies for each child and Jingle himself. His note also told us that he wanted us to choose our Christmas tree today, wearing our Christmas jumpers and Santa hats. Thank goodness that matched the plans Daddy and I had already for today 😉
Cups filled with hot chocolate (and emptied a few times), cookies, cakes, eggs and porridge consumed and they headed upstairs to dress up ready for our annual trip to find the perfect Christmas tree.
By the time we were ready to go, Jingle had eaten his cakes and finished his hot chocolate! 😉
Christmas Trees
As a child we always had an artificial Christmas tree (I grew up in a town on the edge of a desert) and I don’t recall ever even seeing a real Christmas tree until I was a teenager. After moving to the UK, where real Christmas trees are in great abundance, I have loved being able to get one and enjoy the smell and fullness that it has over the trees I remember as a child. Although, I must add-I was never disappointed by our bare, tinsel covered fake one!
Nowadays there are some truly amazing artificial Christmas trees that are so convincing you really have to go up close to notice it’s not the real thing. Perhaps when the children are older and not keen to tramp around a tree lot, we’ll opt for one of those. But for now, the search provides us with a few hours of fun family silliness and kicks the excitement of the festive season up a notch. Having a beautiful tree as the centre piece in the lounge really makes me feel like it’s Christmas. And I am a huge Fan of Christmas-no Grinch allowed here!
