The kiddies will love making these in all sizes and shapes. They smell really great and look gorgeous on your tree…and if anyone is really starving after Christmas lunch, they can attack your tree!

Christmas Cinnamon Ornaments

What you need:
  • 1 cup Applesauce puree
  • 1 oz (30g) Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 oz (30g) Ground Cloves
  • 1 oz (30g) Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 oz (30g) Ground Ginger
  • Icing Sugar or glitter for decoration
  • Cookie cutters in Christmas shapes (stars, squares, trees, etc.)
  • Cutting board
What to do:
  1. Combine ingredients to make a stiff dough (that has no cracks when rolled out).
  2. Roll out about 5mm thick on board dusted with ground cinnamon.
  3. Cut with cookie cutters of your choice.
  4. Make a hole with a straw in the top of each for string or ribbon.
  5. Lay out flat to dry on waxed paper.
  6. Sprinkle one side gently (use a tea strainer) with icing sugar to create snow-effect.
  7. Turn over carefully every 12 hours until completely dry.

These cinnamon ornaments last for ages, definitely long enough to adorn your tree throughout the festive season.  To me, cinnamon is one of the smells I associate with Christmas, winter fires and snuggling under thick fluffy blankets. The sweet subtle aroma of these cinnamon ornaments will make your home smell delicious, cosy and inviting. Like you’ve been baking all day.

I do have to warn you, I did notice that ours disappeared almost daily from the tree and needed replacing…because my kids though they tasted yummy too! Perhaps next time we shouldn’t use food/edible glitter!

At some point in my teaching career I came to realise how little ‘real’ information there was for parents. I would get the same questions from friends and parents mainly about keeping the children learning and engaged and this only increased when I gave birth to my daughter.
