A Rangoli is a bright and colourful design usually made on the floor near the entrance to a house to welcome guests. At Diwali, Hindus draw bright Rangoli patterns to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes. This fun activity is from a lovely parent and toddler group my son attends each week. This week the craft and cooking activity were based on the Diwali celebrations which will take place this weekend.
Age group: 18 months+
What you need:
- A4 paper
- PVA glue and glue sticks or brushes
- Simple Rangoli pattern stencils or templates (my son’s teacher had cut some out of acetate sheets) You can trace these and use a craft knife to cut them out.
- Coloured sand and glitter to sprinkle
What to do:
- Place the stencil/template onto your paper.
- Paint the glue into the spaces
- Remove the stencil/template from the paper and sprinkle coloured sand or glitter onto the gluey spaces.
- Allow to dry
