Here’s a great gift for those Moms who did so much cooking, baking and decorating for Christmas. A wonderful way to relax after all the guests have gone home.
1. Coloured Bath Salts
What you need:
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1/4 cup kosher salt or sea salt (Note: you may substitute cornstarch or baking soda for the kosher salt.)
- Food colouring
- Fragrance oils such as aromatherapy essential oils – Rose, patchouli, sandalwood, etc. (optional)
- Clean and dry jar or attractively shaped bottles.
- Ribbons, organza, net, doilies, etc., for decorating.
- Small label to tie around the neck of the jar or bottle for the instructions
What to do:
- Mix together Epsom salts and kosher salt.
- Add a few drops of your favourite food colour and stir well.
- If you would like your salts scented, add a few drops of fragrance oil.
- Store in an airtight glass container. Decorate appropriately with ribbons, organza, etc.
- Use: Add 1/4 cup under running bath water.
2. Fine Bath Salts:
What you need:
- 1/2 cup fine sea salt or table salt
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 tsp sunflower oil
- 2 to 3 drops fragrance oil such as Rosewater
- 1/4 tsp vitamin E oil (optional)
- Clean and dry jars or attractively shaped bottles.
- Ribbons, organza, net, doilies, etc., for decorating.
- Small label to tie around the neck of the jar or bottle for the instructions
What to do:
- Place all ingredients in a resealable plastic bag and knead until well mixed.
- Pour into an attractive glass bottle or jar.
- Decorate appropriately with ribbons, organza, etc.
- Instructions: Add 1-2 tablespoons to you bath under running water.
3-2-1 Bath Salts:
What you need:
- 3 cups Epsom salts
- 2 cups sea salt or kosher salt or table salt
- 1 cup baking soda
- Fragrance oil or food colouring
- Clean and dry jars or attractively shaped bottles.
- Ribbons, organza, net, doilies, etc., for decorating.
- Small label to tie around the neck of the jar or bottle for the instructions
What to do:
- Mix together in a BIG zip lock bag until well blended.
- Add a few drops of fragrance and/or food colouring and knead to saturate the salts.
- Let sit overnight with one corner open just a little so the mixture can “breathe”.
- Pour into an attractive jar or bottle. Decorate appropriately with ribbons, organza, etc.
- Instructions: Add 1/4 c under running bath water.
These jars can be decorated as festively as you like or keep them elegant or even matched to the recipients bathroom!
