The adventures of Jingle, our Christmas Elf, Day 2
I had forgotten that Jingles visits mean early morning wake ups! Our usual house rule is stay in your room or even better your bed until 7am. My children are really good about abiding by this rule and often they won’t come through to our room til around 7:15 at the earliest..later (on the weekends) if we are lucky. BUT with our elf, Jingle Glitterbottom’s arrival, the excitement in the mornings is palpable!
At bang on 7am, my eldest crept into my room and asked ” May I go find Jingle? Pleeeeease!” So I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed my camera, sent her to get her brothers and gave them the thumbs up to commence the search.
He was not hiding very well so was found quite quickly sitting on top of a box on the hearth. It was a gingerbread house kit. His note asked us to try to be kind to everyone today (Jingle always gives us a task: being kind, helpful, smiling more etc) and to have fun making the gingerbread house together.
It was time to head to school, so I set the table with a Christmas plastic tablecloth and laid out all the pieces for when they got home.
We put on our Santa hats, switched on some Christmas music to help get into the spirit and spent about an hour assembling and decorating the gingerbread house. It was lots of fun and unsurprisingly many of the sweets did not make it onto the house but rather found their way into little mouths! They think I didn’t notice ;). It is rather nice that they are old enough to take charge of decorating (I just put the house together and once it had set, I let them do the rest) as it means it is all them. They decided on colours, which sweets went where and when they were done. The house is colourful and child-like…just perfect for a sibling project.
We were rather pleased with the final result…now to prevent them from eating it straight away…We may have to make another between now and Christmas eve!
Stop by tomorrow to see what Jingle does next.
