It’s nearly pancake Day, so with that in mind, we have put together some fabulous pancake recipes that can be enjoyed for breakfast lunch or dinner…as starters, main meals or desserts.
Take some time to prepare the batter together and let your toddler be involved. Here is a great and easy recipe for pancakes that will suit both savoury and sweet fillings and sauces.
What you need:
- 225g (8oz) plain flour
- 2 large eggs
- oil for frying
- pinch of salt
- 600ml (1pint) semi-skimmed milk
What to do:
- Sift the flour into a large bowl and make a well in the middle.
- Break the eggs into the well and beat
- Gradually beat in the milk until it is a smooth batter.
- heat some oil in the frying pan.
- Coat the base of the pan with batter and cook for 1 min or until the edges are brown, flip it over and cook til golden.
- Pancake Day is also known as Shrove Tuesday. It is the last day before Lent. It is traditional to eat pancakes on this day.
- Shrove Tuesday is always celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday. It is the final day before Lent, a Christian festival, begins leading up to Easter Sunday.
- Shrove comes from an old word “shrive” which means to confess. During the Middle Ages, people used to confess their sins on Shrove Tuesday so that they were forgiven before Lent began.
TOP TIP: If you are planning to make Pancakes for breakfast or lunch, make the batter the night before and it will be ready when you need it.
